Manchester’s best kept secret…
Manchester’s best kept secret, tucked away in the backstreets of Manchester City Centre is this stunning restaurant. I had stumbled across it by accident a couple of months ago and thought it looked nice.
There really is nothing not to love. Beautiful food, lovely setting and fantastic service. We had the main À la carte menu. My lamb loin starter and stone bass main really were faultless.
It’s also a great price for the quality. It is fine dining, so maybe not for those looking for quantity over quality, but we loved it and we can’t wait to go back.
Must try if you like fine dining
We had 12 of the small plates. A bit much for 2 ppl!
The chef is trying interesting flavour combinations using quality ingredients. I also like that he’s elevating cheap ingredients like black pudding and brisket into fine dishes.
I’m glad McR is starting to attract better chefs and I hope local diners support somewhere where the food is put before the image of the restaurant.
Most of what I tasted I felt was Michelin standard.
Had been looking forward to our visit to try the Grafete – social plates to taste lunch menu, even more so when we discovered the Head Chef used to work at our favourite restaurant Fraiche. The restaurant is an amazing modern space and we were sat in a great booth . We both opted for the 5 dishes each offer ( wish we had ordered 15 between us as the food was so good ), both choosing 4 savoury and one sweet dish. Every dish was amazing, special mention to the brisket, chicken and banana and cereal dishes ( whilst my wife loved the cherry and chocolate dessert ). We can’t wait to visit again to try the full tasting menu experience. The whole experience is worthy of at least 3 AA rosettes and potentially a Star in our opinion.
I’ve been here a load of times with my partner and other family members. This place is great to eat and drink. The staff are fantastic and very professional. Great cocktails and other drinks too. I would 100% recommend this place.
Great value deal for excellent food
Itison deal offers tapas and prosecco for two. Prosecco is good and the tapas remain excellent- now the third time we’ve had these. Cucumber soup was light and cleansing, manchester rarebit a little strong this time and threatened to overpower other dishes. However, the chicken, burnt ends and puddings are fab. Banana, cereal, milk was even better than previously and the marmalade cake packed a huge ginger punch. The bread is to die for- this time seaweed brioche with seaweed butter was the undoubted star.
Fantastic and relaxed
We loved every minute of our visit here. The 5 course taster menu and accompanying wine were delicious. The experience was enhanced by the relaxed atmosphere and friendly, attentive staff. The head chef came out to chat with us as we had been commenting how amazing everything was. You could tell he was very passionate and loved his job, as well as inspiration for his team. Big thumbs up to Grafene, we will be back to try the tapas!
Weekday meal for two (wife’s b’day) 5 items tasting menu (1 veggie and 1 pesci) Excellent food, the ingredients were punchy and conpletes each other very well in all dishes! Excellent service and decent price for the quality. Definately coming back again
Best birthday present for my 11 yr son
I booked the 5 course tasting menu for my son and I for his birthday at his request. I emailed the staff ahead explaining that it was his first experience of fine dining.
When we arrived they focused all their attention on him. Called him sir, asked him where he wanted to sit, each course was explained to him and they asked for feedback each time.
He revelled in it. The staff and food couldn’t have been better. 5 star service which created a lifetime memory for my son. I could not be more grateful.
Both food and service were great. Would definitely recommend that you visit if you want to try some finer dining.
THE BEST tasting menu we’ve tried
A spur of the moment decision to book a Friday night in Manchester led me to choose Grafene as our eatery of choice.
Now I have to be honest. It wasn’t the first place that popped into my head…but it now has a firm place in our foodie hearts and bellies.
From the moment I booked our table to the moment we left Grafene, the staff delivered a sublime experience that just wowed over and over.
I precooked the 7 course tasting menu with wine flight. We have had many tasting menus up and down the country, but this one is quite honestly the best.
The attention to detail, the theatre, the flavour combinations and the service were just incredible. I love how the kitchen is organised and for anyone who has experience in the industry this restaurant quite clearly allows chefs to push boundaries within their specialties whilst ensuring that the combination and customer enjoyment of the dish is the priority.
Tonight we have dined on bbq octopus, veal, pine ice cream and dehydrated salmon. Not all on one plate, but you know if it was I’d be tempted to give it a go!!
Special mention to Josh our waiter. He was simply incredible. His passion for food and an excellent customer experience were clear.
We will most definitely be back! Thank you
